The Closet

This week's project is my closet. Well, technically it's my husband's closet, too, but he never seems to be in there, so I think I have more claim over it. It used to be beautiful with clothes hung and organized by style, a mirror that made me look skinnier than I am, and shoes organized in perfect fashion.

It lasted for a few weeks after we moved in, and that was it. Now it has fallen victim to the "oh crap someone is coming over who hasn't seen the house yet and I have to clean my bedroom!" phenomena. In haste I threw everything clothing related into the closet... now it is impossible to open the door more than a few inches.

So this week my closet will be purged. Clothes will be folded and put in my dresser. Others will be hung with care. No longer will I run around madly in the morning searching for an outfit to wear to work; it will all be readily accessible. What a change this will be in my life!

I have not yet decided what to do with my husband's things. After all, I am a working mother who takes care of the children alone after work. My husband works nights and only has himself to take care of when he gets home in the morning. I think he should fold his own clothes and hang his own things up. But chances are they will stay in the same bin that they've been in for months if I leave it. We will see what happens with that one!

The Game Plan

So here's the game plan. Every week I'm going to tackle some type of cleaning project that will help get my house completely decluttered and organized by the end of the year. I will not work on this project every day... it will be worked on until complete that week.

As a working mother, there is no way that these projects are going to be large projects. I already know what my first project is... cleaning out the master closet. It's nothing huge, but it is a big deal to me and it will help with the overall flow of the house.

I plan on posting daily, but it might happen every other day if things are busy. When I post, I plan to post pictures with DATES to show how my house looks for that day. You'll see the bad and the good, but hopefully a lot more good than bad. I will post my weekly chore list and make sure that these things are actually finished before I go to bed at night.

Do not think that I am the only one who will be doing things around the house. I have a capable husband and two children who will be helping as they are able. There will be chores assigned to all of us, and no one will be exempt from this unless they are ill. This will not be a fad-it is a lifestyle change.

So get ready to follow me through a tiring journey of cleaning, cleaning, cleaning! Now I'd better get off my butt and get started because the New Year is here TOMORROW!

And so it begins!

2010 is just around the corner. Nearly everyone makes resolutions for the new year. People decide to lose weight, eat healthy, exercise more, spend more time with the family, spend less time on the interwebs, oh wait... I'm just listing my New Year's Resolutions! Another one of my New Year's Resolutions is to keep my house clean. It's not that my house is dirty or squalor-worthy, but it's cluttered and I always have to run around like a chicken with my head cut off when company is coming over.

But this year will be different. I'm going to tackle weekly projects (at least!), and keep up with the daily maintenance of the house in a much better way. You'll see me succeed and I'm sure you'll see me fail. I know that there is no way for me to keep myself motivated unless I have it all out here. So this is it... the diary of an absolutely disgusting, disgraceful slob. I will leave nothing out, and I will blog it all for you... if there even is a "you." :)
